Why do I have to install another version of Java?

Why can’t I use the version of Java that IBM supplies with DataStage?

IBM packages Java v1.7 with DataStage, and MettleCI workbench requires Java v1.8 for some of its more advanced functionality. We have also experienced some impediments in adopting IBM’s version of Java due to what appears to be some important differences between IBM’s JVM extensions and Java’s standard reference implementation.
